Colombia Geisha Coffee: What Makes It the World's Most Prized Cup?

Colombia Geisha Coffee: What Makes It the World's Most Prized Cup?

What Is Geisha Coffee?

Geisha (also spelled Gesha) is a coffee variety originally from Ethiopia, made famous by Panamanian farms in the early 2000s. It's now grown in select microclimates across Latin America — including Colombia — where the right altitude and soil unlock its signature floral, tea-like complexity.

Why Colombia Geisha Is Special

Colombia's diverse growing regions produce Geisha with a distinct character: bright stone fruit acidity, jasmine aromatics, and a silky body that sets it apart from any other coffee you've tasted. Our Colombia Geisha from Jhoan Vergara's farm is a prime example — grown at high altitude in a region known for exceptional cup quality.

How to Brew Colombia Geisha

To get the most from a Geisha, we recommend a gentle brew method that highlights its delicate aromatics:

  • Pour over (V60 or Chemex): Use a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio, water at 93°C, and a slow, even pour.
  • AeroPress: A short steep of 1–2 minutes with a fine-medium grind brings out the floral notes beautifully.
  • Avoid espresso unless you're experienced — the subtlety of Geisha can get lost under pressure.

What Does Geisha Coffee Taste Like?

Expect notes of peach, apricot, bergamot, and jasmine — more like a fine tea than a traditional coffee. The finish is clean and lingering. It's a coffee that rewards slow sipping.
